Another great voice silenced by cancer

NEW YORK -- Harve Presnell, whose booming baritone graced such Broadway musicals as "The Unsinkable Molly Brown" and "Annie," has died at the age of 75. Presnell's agent Gregg Klein says the actor died Tuesday of pancreatic cancer at St. John's Health Center in Santa Monica, Calif. Presnell also appeared in the film versions of "Molly Brown" and "Paint Your Wagon" as well as "Fargo."

This obit barely touched his greatest singing/comedy performance period. He was "Rotten Luck Willie" in Paint Your Wagon as the gambling,brothel manager and he sang classic version of "They Call The Wind Mariah". The version from the movie was disabled by Paramount at youtube. It's forty years old and Harve has died.

Karl Malden passes away

Karl Malden, the Academy Award-winning character actor whose half-century in show business carried him from the theater to films and then to television, where he policed the streets of San Francisco and became indelibly identified with a commercial for traveler’s checks, died Wednesday at his home in Los Angeles. Another acting icon has passed. Mr.Malden had a tough part in "Nuts" and was old codger with Michael Douglas in Streets Of San Francisco TV series. He was also a credit card spokesman for ages.

Bear raids fridge for chocolate snack

SAN ANTONIO HEIGHTS, Calif - Deputies say a bear with an apparent sweet-tooth busted into a San Bernardino County, Calif. home and gobbled up a box of chocolates from a couple's refrigerator. Sheriff's Sgt. Tom Alsky says the couple arrived home Saturday afternoon, found the bear chowing down in their kitchen and phoned for help. The bear fled before sheriff's deputies arrived.

Managua Mayor Alexis Arguello,boxing great,found dead

MANAGUA, Nicaragua (AP) -- Managua Mayor Alexis Arguello, a three-time world boxing champion, was found dead at his home Wednesday, his Sandinista Party's Radio Ya said. Radio Ya said coroners were conducting an autopsy on the 57-year-old mayor to determine the cause of death, but it appeared to be a suicide. The La Prensa newspaper reported he was found with a gunshot wound to the chest. _____

This is stunning as a "real champ" has taken his own life in Nicaragua. Alexis Arguello was widely accepted as best boxer pound-for-pound in his time period. His fights were real entertainment for fans of the "sweet science".

Lost 800 lb.hog found in swimming pool

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) -- An 800-pound hog that survived on its own for a week after a truck flipped while on its way to a slaughterhouse has surfaced in a swimming pool at a home near the crash site. LeAnn Baldy, whose house is only yards from Interstate 430, said Monday she noticed her pool was suddenly overflowing and then saw the immersed pig, which was having a drink in the pool.

This hog avoided slaughterhouse for a week by rooting in neighborhood after truck turned over. Hog was found getting a drink in nearby swimming pool. Picture is not of lost hog. Arkansas is "Razorback Country"!

Republican Inhofe calls Democrat Franken "clown"

Washington - Sen.Inhofe said the much-anticipated conclusion of a Senate race in Minnesota that will give Democrats the 60 votes needed to overcome Republican filibusters would not be enough to save the climate change bill. "I’ll tell you what a lot of people are thinking, and that is it looks like things are going to be over and we are going to get the clown from Minnesota,’’ he said. Asked if he was referring to Al Franken as the clown from Minnesota, Inhofe confirmed he was. "I didn’t mean to be disrespectful. A republican from Oklahoma has now called Al Franken(D)of Minnesota a clown. This is a new low in namecalling. Another Oklahoma legislator(John Sullivan)is now in Betty Ford Institute for is addiction to "hooch" and that would be a qualification for "drunken clown".
